The right export format is the one your laser software can import while preserving the design's intended dimensions and operations. 3D Nautical Maps provides vector and raster choices so you can prepare the same map for different workshop workflows.
SVG: scalable paths for cutting and etching
SVG stores vector shapes and is a useful starting point when your software supports it. It lets you work with shoreline cut paths and engraving artwork at the intended board size. After import, confirm the dimensions and operation assignments instead of relying on the application's default interpretation of colors.
DXF and EPS: alternatives for vector software
DXF is an option for CAD-oriented import workflows. EPS provides another vector exchange format. Choose the format accepted by your software and inspect the imported result, including labels and detailed artwork. Format support and unit handling differ between applications; no export choice guarantees compatibility with every laser controller.
PNG and JPG: raster images
Raster output uses pixels rather than editable cutting paths. PNG and JPG can support image-based engraving workflows, while the full-color Preview.png in the ZIP is an assembly reference. A raster image is not a substitute for the vector paths needed to cut individual layers.
Preserve size, alignment, and operation intent
- Choose the output dimensions and formats in the designer.
- Set colors and line widths for cut, vector-etch, and raster-etch operations.
- Import all six layers at the same scale. Confirm units and board dimensions before moving individual parts.
- Assign operations in your laser software and choose power and speed for the actual material.
- Run a small test and inspect the fit before producing the full map.
The map files describe geometry and artwork. They do not choose machine-specific cutting parameters. Keep the downloaded preview alongside the production layers to help check assembly order and alignment.
